Job Summary

USGP is seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective dispensing of medications to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a full range of pharmacy technician procedures, including filling new outpatient prescriptions, refilling prescriptions, and entering orders into databases.
  • Provide information consultation duties, including supporting new and refill prescriptions, supporting patient requests, supporting physician's requests, monitoring for drug interactions, and reporting adverse drug reactions.
  • Conduct quality improvement duties, including performing drug storage inspection, reviewing expired supplies, and producing error and workload reports and documentation.
  • Manage supply process duties, including placing new orders, stocking/restocking shelves, inventory maintenance, and producing not in stock reports.
  • Utilize pharmacy electronic health record (EHR) computer and robotic systems for dispensing medications, document patient care, and review patient care rendered by medical providers in other clinics or MTFs in accordance with MTF protocols.
  • Adhere to essential policies and procedures for DHA and DoD, including those policies relating to proper use of medications and the formulary at NHJ.
  • Fill outpatient prescription orders and inpatient pharmacy duties, if needed based on current staffing levels, and if the HCW has successfully completed the Personnel Qualification Standards (PQS) for these areas.
  • Perform narcotic/vault duties as assigned for approximately one (1) week periods, including assisting with ordering, filling, inventory, and distribution of controlled medication, and coordinate narcotics prescriptions with the pharmacist.
  • Provide extemporaneous compounding and provision of bulk medications, ensuring no chemical and/or physical incompatibilities.
  • Utilize available medication information reference materials provided by the DHA and NHJ pharmacy department.
  • Provide patient medication information and counseling.
  • Enter accurate and timely records, encounter closures within 72-hours, reports, and documentation, both written and electronic communication of all information, as appropriate, to include pain patient agreements, pharmacotherapeutic treatment findings and recommendations.
  • Order medications using the DMLSS system as allowable per Department of Defense policies.
  • Educate and orient self and other staff members to the operations and policies of the pharmacy department and clinic.
  • Answer telephone call questions from patients or hospital staff on pharmacy related issues.
  • Ensure that work areas are clean and safe according to applicable regulations.
Requirements
  • Education: Graduate from a formal pharmacy technician program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) or a formal pharmacy technician program (i.e., technical, hospital, or retail-based program) or a formal medical services training program of the United States Military.
  • Certification: Certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
  • Experience: Possess a minimum of 12 months of experience as a Pharmacy Technician with the preceding 36 months. Provide three (3) letters of recommendation from practicing Pharmacists or pharmacy supervisors attesting to the HCW's professional skills and abilities, competencies, and patient rapport. Recommendation letters must include: name, title, phone number, date of recommendation, address and signature of the individual providing the recommendation. Letters of recommendation must have been written within the preceding two (2) years.
