Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Underwriting Consultant to join our team at CNA Financial Corporation. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for managing, developing, and analyzing complex books of business, with a focus on private equity middle market underwriting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced underwriting analysis on highly complex risks, employing diagnostic and systematic approaches to assess acceptability.
  • Develop specialized endorsement language for complex risks and determine appropriate pricing based on financial and competitive analysis.
  • Make recommendations on underwriting policy and pricing strategy, with a focus on profitability and risk management.
  • Market products and services through agencies or the brokerage community, with a focus on building relationships with large producers.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends, regulations, and best practices, and participate in industry trade groups as needed.
Requirements
  • Advanced technical expertise in underwriting, with a strong understanding of insurance principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and guide less experienced underwriters.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with professional designations preferred.
  • Typically a minimum eight years of underwriting experience, with a strong track record of success in managing complex books of business.
