The Surgical Nurse Specialist at St. Elizabeth Healthcare is responsible for providing evidence-based clinical care to patients in the operating room. This role requires a licensed registered nurse who can assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care according to established ethical and cultural codes and standards of nursing practices. The nurse will work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to achieve patient outcomes and delegate tasks appropriately to other licensed and unlicensed healthcare team members.

Key Responsibilities:

• Utilize the nursing process in the care, counsel, and health teaching of patients in the operating room.
• Determine appropriate nursing interventions to meet patient outcomes and ensure the plan of care provides for the maintenance of health and prevention of illness.
• Incorporate cultural sensitivity, diversity, and non-discriminatory terms and approaches into patient care.
• Maintain current skills, knowledge, and competencies in the area of specialty.
• Utilize evidence-based practice, research, clinical judgment, and nursing skills based upon the principles of psychological, biological, physical, and social science in planning and providing nursing care.
• Document care provided utilizing the Patient Data Base, PFER, Care Maps, Progress Notes, Flow Sheets, and other forms as required.

Requirements:

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
• Licensed to practice in the state where work is being performed.
• Meets contact hour requirements for licensure, including all state-required courses.
• Focus of education promotes nurses' ability to practice in the clinical area assigned.

Specialized Knowledge:

The Surgical Nurse Specialist at St. Elizabeth Healthcare demonstrates knowledge of nursing theory, clinical practice standards, procedures, policies, and competence in mathematical calculations associated with medication administration. The nurse is competent to independently perform safe nursing skills and procedures.
