Job Summary

The Perianesthesia Care Units at Bayfront Medical Center include the Pre-operative (prep), Post-Anesthesia Care Units (PACU), and the 23-hour stay. Our team of perianesthesia specialty nurses provides dynamic, compassionate care for a wide variety of surgical patients for adults and adolescents (13 and up) in the ambulatory care setting.

In preparing patients for surgery, we assure their readiness and provide preoperative teaching for patients and their families. The priority postoperatively is to physiologically stabilize patients, provide innovative pain management strategies, and integrate family-centered care.

Our postoperative area cares for patients recovering from a wide variety of surgeries and procedures including, but not limited to general surgery, ophthalmology, GYN, GU, OHNS, robotics, and plastic surgery.

An interdisciplinary team of nurses, surgeons, specialty physicians, anesthesiologists and respiratory therapists work to initiate the recovery from surgery.

Responsibilities

* Provide high-quality, patient-centered care to surgical patients

* Collaborate with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and other members of the interdisciplinary team

* Participate in preoperative and postoperative patient teaching and education

* Develop and implement individualized pain management plans

* Monitor and manage patient vital signs and physiological status

* Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members

Requirements

* Two years of recent adult inpatient acute care experience

* Possession of the legal requirements to practice as a Registered Nurse as determined by the California Board of Registered Nursing

* Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position

* Knowledge of airway management, anesthesia recovery, and pain management

Preferred Qualifications

* One year of experience in PACU

* One year of experience in ICU

* CCRN or CPAN certification

* Two years of adult Critical Care experience as an RN
