Job Summary

The Pharmacy Technician Training Program at Vanderbilt University Medical Center is a 14-week innovative training program designed to prepare individuals to become certified Pharmacy Technicians. The program consists of 10 weeks of classroom instruction and simulated labs, followed by 4 weeks of experiential rotation in one of our Vanderbilt pharmacies.

As a Pharmacy Technician Trainee, you will assist pharmacists in the preparation, dispensing, and distribution of medications, apply departmental processes regarding inventory control, and deliver outstanding customer service to internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist pharmacists in the preparation, dispensing, and distribution of medications.
  • Apply departmental processes regarding inventory control.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Operate computer systems and utilize technology.

Technical Capabilities:

  • Pharmaceutical Computer Literacy: Has demonstrated a basic understanding of computers or has successfully completed training for applications that are used to support medication use processes.
  • Pharmaceutical Drug Preparation, Dispensing & Distribution: Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully review, prepare, dispense, and distribute prescribed medications.
  • Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance & Compliance: Demonstrates working knowledge of the appropriate rules and regulations as they apply to the department and work areas.
  • Drug Inventory & Records Management: Possesses fundamental proficiency working with drug inventory and records management.

Position Qualifications:

  • Responsibilities: Assist pharmacists in the preparation, dispensing, and distribution of medications, apply departmental processes regarding inventory control, and deliver outstanding customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Certifications: None required.
  • Work Experience: Less than 1 year of experience in a pharmacy setting.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
