Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Safety Engineer to join our team at the Department of Defense. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and reliability of our systems and products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement safety programs to ensure compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) and Agency level safety guidance.
  • Identify and mitigate hazards that may impact the end user, and ensure that hazards are briefed to the Warfighter and Missile Defense Agency (MDA) senior leadership.
  • Review and analyze risk assessment/mitigation and recommend sign-off prior to program's residual system safety risk acceptance.
  • Assure acceptance of residual safety risk by the appropriate MDA authority per agency policy.
  • Process safety waivers as required.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Full-time position with flexible tour of duty.
  • Exempt from Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
  • Required to obtain and maintain a Non-Critical Sensitive (Secret) Security Clearance.
  • Required to obtain level Practitioner in Engineering and Technical Management.
Qualifications

You may qualify at the NH-04 level if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the NH-03/GS-13 grade level in the Federal service, as listed below:

  • Experience applying technical theories and concepts related to safety engineering and combat/weapon system design.
  • Providing safety engineering support for integration of air and space electronics and/or complex weapon systems components and software.
  • Reviewing Software Safety Requirements and providing requirement analysis and flow-down of Safety requirements and attributes.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.

Additional Information

This position requires Acquisition Practitioner in Engineering and Technical Management. Certification prior to hiring is not essential but must be accomplished within 60 months after entry into this position.

Selectee must also achieve 80 hours of Continuous Learning Points (CLPs) every 24 months.

This position DOES NOT meet criteria for re-employed annuitant.
