Job Overview

The Maintenance Supervisor plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless operation of the maintenance department, reporting directly to the Plant Manager. This position is responsible for overseeing all maintenance functions, coordinating tasks across various process areas, and fostering a safe, efficient, and continuously improving work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordination and Communication:
    • Collaborate with supervisors from other departments to prioritize and coordinate maintenance and repair activities across process areas, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
    • Supervise plant maintenance personnel, ensuring they are properly trained, well-equipped, and motivated to safely execute maintenance tasks on time and within budget.
    • Develop, maintain, and update operational and training standards for the maintenance team, driving continuous improvement and adherence to best practices.
  • Equipment Monitoring and Repair:
    • Regularly monitor the performance of plant equipment and systems, identifying and addressing issues proactively to minimize unplanned downtime and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Perform necessary repairs on maintenance shop equipment to ensure operational efficiency is maintained.
  • Process Management:
    • Establish and maintain tracking systems for work orders, spare parts, and equipment maintenance history to optimize the department's processes and control costs.
  • Project Management:
    • Lead plant equipment projects aimed at improving efficiency and reducing operational costs, driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Ensure the maintenance department complies with all safety, health, and environmental regulations.
    • Actively enforce safety protocols, conduct safety reviews, and promote adherence to best practices to maintain maximum safety standards for all team members.
  • Inventory and Supplies Management:
    • Track the inventory of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment, and initiate reordering when necessary to maintain operational readiness.
  • Other Duties:
    • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Plant Manager.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Must meet physical requirements, including the ability to lift 50 pounds and stand on a concrete floor for the duration of a shift.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Work primarily in a steel manufacturing facility, with exposure to:
    • Moving machinery, heavy equipment, and sharp objects.
    • Temperature fluctuations depending on seasonal conditions.
    • Loud machinery noise and airborne particles typical of industrial settings.
  • Strict adherence to safety protocols is required.

Supervision and Co-Workers/Attendance Requirements:

  • The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the maintenance department in compliance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
  • Supervisory responsibilities include employee training, task planning, performance appraisal, and addressing complaints or resolving issues.
  • Regular attendance is essential to ensure the team meets production schedules and customer requirements.

Consequences if Essential Functions are Not Performed:

  • Supervision and co-worker assistance are available as needed, but unscheduled absences or failure to perform duties may jeopardize customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
  • Management retains the right to modify the job description or add duties as necessary.
