Heavy Equipment Technician

The Commonwealth of Virginia DBA Virginia Port Authority is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Technician to join our team at the Virginia Inland Port.
This is a unique opportunity to work with state-of-the-art machinery and equipment, performing routine maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
Salary & BenefitsThe hourly wage for this position ranges from $25.37 to $32 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Job ResponsibilitiesAs a Heavy Equipment Technician, you will be responsible for:
- Performing routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks
- Repairing and replacing faulty components, including engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems
- Troubleshooting equipment malfunctions and diagnosing causes of failure
- Start all equipment at the beginning of each day and ensure proper operation
- Identifying needed parts for repair and ordering replacements as necessary
- Keeping aging equipment up and running to ensure proper function within specifications
- Performing preventative maintenance tasks to ensure optimal equipment performance
- Reading and interpreting electronic schematics
- Ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and policies within the work area
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A high school diploma or equivalent required; at least 1 year of trade school preferred
- At least 1 year of experience in heavy equipment repair or maintenance
- Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily
