Geologist/GIS Specialist III

We are seeking a highly skilled Geologist/GIS Specialist III to join our team at University Enterprises. This is a full-time, exempt from overtime, benefited position, covered under the California Public Employees' Retirement System.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinates multi-entity research projects, including liaison between university researchers, contractors, and outside agencies and consultants.
- Administers research projects, including preparation of contract documents, day-to-day contract enforcement, and evaluation of project results.
- Provides engineering geology and water resources advice to design, implement, and complete research projects.
- Identifies the need to incorporate research findings in design and implementation of environmental and water resources projects.
- Conceptualizes, codes, debugs, implements, and documents database and GIS applications.
- Assists and participates in other projects with significant geological components.
- Prepares reports and presentations of findings to university, funding agencies, and other interested parties and groups.
- Participates in conferences and workshops to transmit research results.
- Assists with the preparation of proposals.
- Participates in applied research need analysis for state and local agencies.
- Master's Degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Earth Sciences, or related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience of at least ten (10) years in conceptualizing, coding, debugging, developing, implementing, and packaging standalone GIS-based tools and mapping applications in water related research projects.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of water-related research.
- Demonstrated ability in conceptualizing, coding, debugging, implementing, and documenting stand-alone computer programs, geographical information systems and databases.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the characteristics and impacts of point and non-point source pollution.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze environmental laws and regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary research group.
- Demonstrates ability to review and edit technical project reports and documents.
- Demonstrated ability to present information and results in conferences and meetings.
- Must be legally eligible to drive in California, complete and pass an online training course, maintain a good driving record, and be acceptable for vehicle insurance coverage under the University Enterprises insurance plan.
- Must pass a background check, which may include fingerprinting.
Work is performed in an office environment and outdoors at project locations; continuous contact with staff, campus community, the public, and government agencies; requires substantial travel to project sites, coordination meetings, and conferences.
Work Schedule40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
