Job Description

This position is for our YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids team. We are seeking a skilled Swim Instructor to conduct swimming instruction using the National Aquatic YMCA Programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach aquatic skills to children and adults
  • Follow prepared lesson plans to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience
  • Maintain teaching equipment and supervise participants
  • Distribute and collect program evaluations to improve services
  • Implement Character Development in all programs
  • Handle parent/member complaints in a professional manner
  • Maintain all areas in clean, presentable fashion
  • Enforce safety standards and follow emergency procedures
  • Ensure State of Michigan's Department of Health requirements are met

Requirements:

  • Six months to one year of recreation, lifeguard, swim instructor, or water park experience
  • Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles
  • Ability to demonstrate aquatic skills and react quickly to emergency situations
  • At least sixteen years of age or older
