Job Summary:
As a Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant PTA at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care under the supervision of a registered physical therapist. Your expertise will be instrumental in administering therapeutic modalities, instructing patients, and supervising established therapeutic exercises and functional activities. You will also be responsible for fitting and instructing patients in the use of orthopedic appliances, ensuring a seamless patient experience.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Patient Health Care: Instruct patients on general health and basic self-care procedures, review and explain physician orders, and provide guidance on the use of home equipment. Apply orthopedic appliances, apply and remove dressings, and follow standard infection control procedures. Initiate emergency procedures, including CPR, and provide emergency patient treatment. Lift patients, monitor vital signs, and observe patients for bleeding. Prepare and position patients for procedures, provide therapeutic patient care as prescribed by a physician, and observe and monitor patient condition during and after procedures.
  • Equipment and Instruments: Ensure equipment is available for procedures and examinations, set up orthopedic, cervical, or pelvic traction, and stock and restock treatment and procedure rooms. Rinse and clean instruments and equipment, arrange for equipment repair, and maintain a clean work area. Prepare procedure and exam rooms, restock operating, procedure, cast, and examination rooms, and select and set out appropriate tubings and sterile supplies.
  • Materials and Supplies: Order supplies, dispose of expendable medical supplies, and participate in developing and conducting in-service programs and patient care classes. Demonstrate safety procedures, coordinate and monitor activities within the unit, and participate in training physical therapy students. Train and orient new or less experienced personnel, maintain current licensure and certificates, and answer call lights and telephones.
  • Patient Procedures and Activities: Explain test procedures and purpose, assemble patient education materials, demonstrate equipment for patients, and instruct patients in care and maintenance of equipment. Assist providers in patient examinations and procedures, consult with providers concerning procedures and patient condition, and follow standard infection control procedures.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
  • Successful completion of clinical competencies during internship.
Education
  • Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant Program with an Associate or Science degree in Physical Therapy or California Examining Committee equivalent.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Physical Therapist Assistant Certificate (California).

  • Outpatient Experience.
