Key Responsibilities- Provide professional nursing care to patients, functioning independently as a practitioner with superior problem-solving, decision-making, and critical thinking skills.
- Direct patient care as needed, serving as a technical expert and resource for patients and staff.
- Function as a clinical expert, consultant, and resource to nursing unit staff, facilitating consistent quality patient care.
- Coordinate unit-level quality management and performance improvement activities, initiating processes to resolve clinical problems.
- Monitor and evaluate care and practice for self and others, collecting data to ensure effectiveness of interventions.
- Coordinate assignment, unit staffing, and scheduling based on established standards, ensuring optimal utilization of resources to meet patient needs.
- Facilitate efficient patient throughput, including appropriate bed placement based on diagnosis, acuity, and staffing requirements.
- Ensure discharge planning occurs in collaboration with case management and area management.
- Function as a clinical coach, serving as a resource for other clinical coaches and area preceptors, participating in planning orientation and development of staff.
- Support consistent regulatory readiness for the unit/area via rounding, counseling/coaching, and monitoring, being aware of standards and regulations applicable to the clinical unit.
- Function as a charge nurse and shift coordinator, able to problem-solve unit and area-level operations issues, collaborating with management as defined.
- Respond to unit/area emergencies, disasters, or other emergent situations by responding, facilitating communication, and resources with management/administrative support.
- Participate in the evaluation of staff by providing input, supporting development, coaching, and counseling of staff.
- Coordinate special programs within the area of expertise as delegated.
- Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by actively assisting in the change process in a positive, constructive manner.
- Follow up on patient incidents and complaints as delegated by management.
- Serve as a mediator, facilitating conflict resolution between staff, and involving management as directed.
- Participate on committees as delegated to represent the area or nursing practice.
- Continues to pursue educational and/or professional growth opportunities pertinent to clinical and professional development, seeking specialty certification within identified time frames as appropriate.
- Current Indiana License as a Registered Nurse
- Graduation from a nationally accredited college or university
- Current BLS certification
- Current ACLS certification
- Additional certifications and specialty skills related to designated area of practice
- Minimum of three to five years of clinical nursing experience as a registered nurse
- BSN preferred
- Clinical nursing practice, use of equipment/instruments relevant to unit/area care, according to policies, procedures, and standards.
- Effective interpersonal communication and team skills, including listening, interviewing techniques with patients, families, and staff.
- Assessment, reassessment, and monitoring of patients.
- Concise, accurate, legible documentation.
- Problem-solving techniques, critical thinking skills, decision-making.
- Provide care appropriate to meet the age and cultural needs of the patients served.
- Demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span.
- Ability to assess data/interpret appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs as well as clinical indications.
