Job Description

Schedule appointments for primary care, specialty, and subspecialty medical care in a government computer system. This role involves calling patients or responding to secure messaging submissions to schedule, reschedule, and/or cancel appointments as needed. Additionally, this position will support PCM by name processing for appointment and access to care timeframes during allocation of standard appointment types.

Responsibilities:
  • Schedule medical appointments and determine patient eligibility for services from phone calls, secured messaging, or other methods used for appointment requests.
  • Maintain appointment schedules using a government computer system (Composite Health Care Systems (CHCS), AHLTA, or MHS GENESIS).
  • Validate eligibility through appropriate booking through Defense Eligibility Report System (DEERS) and register patients not already in the computer system, such as newborns.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient schedules and logs, utilizing government computer system tools and standard protocols to facilitate maintenance of appointment slots, rescheduling options, or cancellation processing.
  • Validate basic patient demographic information prior to booking appointment for patients and make required updates.
  • Call patients or respond to secure messaging requests as needed to schedule, reschedule, and/or cancel appointments, promoting consult/referral specialty medical care within the MTF or at civilian facilities.
  • Patient Appointing Services will entail shift support to cover operations Monday through Friday 6:00 am to 8:00 pm, and Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays (except Christmas Day) 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 6 months working in a medical office.
  • DoD experience a plus.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Qualified typist.
  • Proficient in the English language.
  • Telephone etiquette and excellent communication and customer service skills required.
  • General office administrative and clerical skills to perform receptionist duties and answer telephones required.
  • Use of standard office equipment and basic computer proficiency (including MS Office Suite) required.
  • General medical ethics, familiar with medical terminology and Managed Care/TRICARE background desired.
  • CHCS/AHLTA, MHS GENESIS, DEERS experience desired.
  • Ability to work in a call center environment a must.
  • Must be able to clear a Security Background Investigation and credit check.
