Job Summary:

This Mental Health Technician role at the Family Service and Guidance Center Topeka provides direct care to children and adolescents experiencing severe emotional disturbance or at risk of becoming SED. The position requires flexibility in scheduling and risk of exposure to aggressive and/or acting out children and youth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one direct care to children and adolescents, adhering to treatment plans developed by the treatment team.
  • Work collaboratively with clients, families, and treatment teams to identify treatment goals, objectives, and discharge criteria.
  • Attend quarterly program meetings for case review, case assignment, and training.
  • Report significant events to supervisors, crisis clinicians, and directors.
  • Participate in individual supervision and case discussion.
  • Complete clinical documentation in a timely manner.
  • Teach basic life skills and prepare meals for clients.
  • Stay informed of changes in agency policy and adhere to ethical behavior expectations.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Two years of experience with children with SED or two years of post-secondary education in a human service field. Combination of experience and education totaling at least two years also acceptable.
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, current auto insurance, and reliable transportation essential.
  • Successful completion of TB test, health assessment, Managing Aggressive Behavior, CPR, and First Aid training within the first three months of employment.
  • Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with others.
