Payroll Accountant

Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure accuracy of quarterly and annual tax forms
- Oversee payroll staff to ensure error-free bi-weekly payrolls
- Reconcile employee benefits programs, including group health, dental, and vision, accident and disability, life insurance, 401(k), and wellness benefits
- Maintain payroll records and files, including paid time off and other accrued leave
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws
- Act as liaison between organization and external payroll provider specialists
- Respond to Director with accurate and timely work to facilitate department needs
- Respond to routine inquiries concerning bookkeeping functions and facilitate reports on an as-needed basis
- Submit month-end close payroll expense reports timely and accurately
- Perform complex journal entries incorporating figures from external payroll reports to internal accounting software
- Assist with development and implementation of bookkeeping and payroll practices, policies, and procedures
- Act as internal auditor to ensure internal controls are followed and implemented in accordance with organization policy and federal/state regulations
Requirements:
- BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, Economics, and/or Business with a minimum of 2+ years operating in a payroll supervisory role
- AA/AS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, Economics, and/or Business with a minimum of 5+ years operating in a payroll supervisory role
- Advance knowledge of QuickBooks and other financial software required
- Advance knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of Paycom Payroll, ADP, Paychecks, and other payroll platforms
- Knowledge of current federal, state, and local tax laws
- Strong communication ability
- Excellent analytical and quantitative skills
- Proven ability to handle multiple tasks effectively under pressure while successfully meeting critical deadlines
- Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and efficient
- Maturity, integrity, and sound judgment
