About the RoleWe are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Dental Hygiene Specialist to join our team at Family Health Center of Kalamazoo. As a key member of our dental care team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care, educating patients on oral health, and maintaining accurate records.
Duties and Responsibilities- Closely collaborate with administrative staff to optimize patient scheduling and ensure seamless communication.
- Accurately document patients' periodontal health and treatment progress.
- Conduct thorough patient education sessions on oral health best practices, including nutrition and hygiene techniques.
- Prioritize patient comfort and well-being throughout treatment, employing gentle and empathetic approaches to alleviate anxiety.
- Apply cavity-preventative agents such as fluoride and sealants to promote optimal oral health.
- Perform meticulous prophylaxis procedures to remove plaque and tartar, ensuring patients receive the highest standard of care.
- Maintain precise records of all treatments administered, adhering to strict confidentiality guidelines.
- Take radiographs as prescribed by our dentists, utilizing state-of-the-art technology.
- Administer local anesthetics (if permitted by state law), prioritizing patient safety and comfort.
- Execute scaling, root planing, and polishing procedures as needed, tailoring treatments to individual patient needs.
- Regularly review and update patient health and dental history, ensuring comprehensive understanding of each patient's unique requirements.
- Maintain a spotless treatment room environment, adhering to rigorous sterilization protocols to prevent infection transmission.
- Provide tobacco cessation counseling to patients, empowering them to make informed choices about their oral health.
This role requires working in a fast-paced clinical setting, often involving emergency situations or irregular hours. You will also need to maintain physical stamina to perform duties such as standing, walking, sitting, reaching, and occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds. Additionally, specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Requirements & Qualifications- Possess strong interpersonal skills to establish rapport with patients, dentists, staff, and the community.
- Effectively communicate information to individuals and small groups, adapting your approach to diverse learning styles.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and ability to learn electronic healthcare systems is essential.
- Spanish language skills are highly desirable but not required.
- Hold a minimum associate degree in applied science from a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) accredited program.
- Be licensed to practice Dental Hygiene in the State of Michigan.
