Job Title: Assistant Nurse Manager

At Hackensack Meridian Health, we are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Assistant Nurse Manager to join our team. As a key member of our nursing leadership team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and promoting a culture of safety, respect, and trust.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage and lead nursing staff to ensure quality care is provided within a safe and healing environment.
  • Assume administrative and clinical responsibility in the absence of the Vice President of Patient Care Services and other administrative personnel.
  • Monitor and assure patient care is provided within a safe and healing environment in the least restrictive manner.
  • Promote a culture and environment of safety, respect, and trust for patients, families, and staff.
  • Act as liaison with Access staff on appropriateness of admissions and EMTALA compliance.
  • Direct and/or coordinate interventions necessitated by emergency situations.
  • Supervise and maintain a safe, orderly, and therapeutic work/patient care environment.
  • Monitor, investigate, and provide feedback on all environmental and safety hazards.
  • Act as an ombudsman for the hospital when responding to inquiries and crisis calls.
  • Resolve conflicts that may arise with patients, families, and staff in a diplomatic manner.
  • Provide direction and support staff regarding ethical issues.
  • Understand and adhere to Joint Commission, CMS, and State laws and regulations.
  • Understand and adhere to organizations' health and safety requirements.
  • Understand and adhere to organizations' and department's HR and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that staff have sufficient resources necessary to accomplish their objectives and fulfill their responsibilities.
  • Review schedule on shift basis and make staff adjustments in relation to census and acuity levels.
  • Mentor, coach, and motivate staff regarding performance and appropriate behaviors and conduct.
  • Set the example concerning punctuality and presentation of a professional image.
  • Assign priorities in tasks and delegate as appropriate.
  • Interview and select nursing staff as requested.
  • Analyze staff training needs and ensure that staff receives appropriate training.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to meet staffing needs.
  • Encourage and coach staff concerning educational opportunities and their professional growth within the organization.
  • Assist Staff Education to ensure that unit staff are 100% compliant with mandatory corporate training.
  • Ensure that staff competency assessments and performance appraisals are completed in a timely manner.
  • Encourage workforce diversity.
  • Include staff in the decision-making and development of work processes.
  • Attend at least 3 NMC meetings per year.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Minimum 2 years recent nursing experience in respective specialty or equivalent.
  • The ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing patient needs.
  • National Certification acceptable to the Magnet Recognition Program and appropriate to your current specialty (within two years of hire).
