Overview

AvalonBay Communities, Inc. is a leading Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) focused on developing, redeveloping, acquiring, and managing high-quality apartment communities in the United States. As a Construction Summer Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in the construction management of multi-family apartment communities, working on various stages of the construction process, including site and concrete work, framing, rough mechanicals, finishes, budgeting, and scheduling.

The Role

As a Construction Summer Intern, you will collaborate with Superintendents, Project Managers, Contractors, Subcontractors, Lead Engineers, and Architects to gain a comprehensive understanding of the different roles required for successful construction projects. You will also learn about AvalonBay's Incident and Injury-Free Workplace safety culture, how to recognize and reinforce best safety practices, and gain a thorough understanding of different safety laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the construction management of multi-family apartment communities
  • Collaborating with Superintendents, Project Managers, Contractors, Subcontractors, Lead Engineers, and Architects
  • Learning about AvalonBay's Incident and Injury-Free Workplace safety culture
  • Gaining a comprehensive understanding of different safety laws and regulations

Requirements

Qualified candidates must be enrolled in an undergraduate Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related program. Prior construction-related internships or work experience is beneficial but not required. The ideal candidate will have the ability to quickly pick up new skills, a desire to expand their base knowledge of construction, and proficient computer skills, including the ability to work in spreadsheets, word processors, and other software.
