Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Theatre Technical Manager to join our team at the Museum of African American History. This is a full-time position that requires flexibility and a passion for technical theatre.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily operations of our theatres, including audio, lighting, effects, set building, and supervision of the theatre space and scene shop. They will collaborate with directors, production designers, and clients to provide quality technical services during performances.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate equipment load-in, setup, and teardown, including lighting, audio, and video for special events held at the museum.
  • Provide first-line maintenance support for all relevant technical equipment, tools, machines, furniture, fixtures, and fittings related to the performance space.
  • Maintain an inventory of all technical equipment and ensure equipment is stored safely.
  • Supervise the use of the stage facilities and museum theatrical equipment when being operated by clients or outside contractors.
  • Identify key staff and students and provide training on equipment and processes as required.
Requirements
  • Minimum 3+ years' experience in technical theatre or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Theatre (preferred).
  • Knowledge of digital sound consoles, intelligent lighting fixtures, and video technology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Work Environment
  • This position requires flexible hours, including occasional nights and weekends.
  • You may be asked to work at heights or in low-visibility environments.
  • Lifting and carrying items up to 75 lbs. may be necessary, and you may experience discomfort from bending, twisting, climbing, crawling, pushing, kneeling, stooping, and reaching overhead.
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is $60,000 - $70,000 per year, depending on experience. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
