Job Summary:

As a Nutrition Partner at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in ensuring the proper setup and delivery of meals and supplies for patients and non-patient food service. Your attention to detail and organizational skills will be essential in maintaining accurate records and communicating effectively with the patient care team.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Collect patient meal and snack choices according to diet order, ensuring that patients' age-specific, food allergy, religious, cultural, and food preference needs are met.
  2. Offer patients alternative food and beverage selections and resolve problems and concerns with the patient care team, registered dietitian, nutrition clerk, or management.
  3. Prepare tray tickets for tray-line and collect food and supplies for service, assembling patient meals and snacks accurately according to diet order, tray ticket, snack label, or other protocol.
  4. Measure food portions into individual servings and deliver meals and snacks to patients, storing them properly and/or heating and serving trays to the correct patient.
  5. Receive and store product deliveries, including groceries, tube feedings, supplements, office supplies, equipment, paper goods, etc.
  6. Organize new products in the proper location behind older products (First In, First Out), discard dented products, extra cardboard, or garbage, and label goods or products as assigned.
  7. Inspect delivery and review invoices for accuracy and proper condition of goods, signing invoices if authorized to do so.
  8. Stock assigned areas with products, such as condiments, paper goods, food, beverages, chemicals, according to defined par levels or procedures.
  9. Organize and clean and sanitize assigned pantry and kitchen surfaces and equipment according to defined procedures, as frequently as assigned.
  10. Record all assigned data, such as food storage temperatures, dishwasher temperatures, pH levels, meal counts, late trays, etc., and log data in the proper area.
  11. Assure temperatures or other data are within assigned ranges and follow up with action and documentation when out of range.
  12. Document equipment malfunctions according to facility procedure.
  13. Prepare orders for food, beverages, paper goods, tube feedings, supplies, etc., and place orders according to facility procedure.
  14. Collect and maintain statistical data and/or financial records, calendars meetings, prepares correspondence, reports, and email notifications as assigned.
  15. Monitor pertinent patient information, such as admission, discharge, transfer, diet order changes, and initiate follow-up based on the data.
  16. Review diet-related status of patients' nutritional care via CBORD software system and update menus, tray tickets, nourishments, tube feeding, preferences, according to facility protocol to assure nutritional adequacy, age-specific, cultural, religious needs are met, and avoid potential food-drug interactions.
  17. Organize test meals for compliance with current prescribed diet order as assigned.
  18. File required documents, such as delivery logs, orders, patient census, diet order census, etc.
  19. Utilize facility technology to complete assigned tasks, such as logging on and off personal computers, using assigned programs, and completing tasks such as generating data, hot synching Palm Pilots, printing, sending, saving, deleting, copying, entering data in PCs or handheld devices.
  20. Answer telephones and respond to customers in a timely manner, entering food preferences, menu selections, and nutritional notes into CBORD as needed.
  21. Prepare commissary orders for food and supplies on a daily basis according to established procedures, assuring adequate quantity and type of inventory needed.
  22. Problem-solve for customers, such as patient care team members, clinical dietitians, etc., referring customers to appropriate persons, departments, or providing follow-up.
  23. Assist in training new employees as necessary.
Requirements:
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
  • Data entry skills utilizing Word or Excel database systems.
  • Data entry skills utilizing handheld electronic devices desirable.
  • Ability to draft short correspondence desirable.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other individuals within the organization.
  • Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.
  • Also refer to Position Specifications outlined in the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Six months experience in nutritional services department/diet office in an acute care or skilled nursing facility preferred or one year other food service experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets preferred.
