About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Mental Health Support Specialist to join our team at Waukesha County's Department of Health & Human Services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide basic care services and maintain a safe and secure environment for in-patient psychiatric patients.
  • Supervise patient behaviors and activities, monitor physical and emotional well-being, and respond to all patient needs and concerns.
  • Record observations regarding patients' behavior, mental status, and care, and report observations to the charge nurse.
  • Assist in restraining physically aggressive patients and de-escalate psychologically or emotionally agitated patients.
  • Participate in in-service training programs to remain current in the mental health field.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
  • High school graduation or GED equivalent.
  • Two years of recognized post-high school education with at least two courses in psychology, sociology, or social work.
  • OR six months of patient care experience in a mental health setting or a residential treatment center for mentally ill or developmentally disabled or related area.
  • OR completion of two semesters of clinical education as a nursing student in a recognized nursing education program.
  • Possession of a valid State of Wisconsin CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certification.
  • Valid driver's license from the State of Wisconsin.
