Diet Assistant

Geisinger is seeking a Diet Assistant to join our Food Services Team. As a member of our team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that patients receive accurate and timely nutrition care.

About the Job

This is a flex position (Per Diem/hours as needed based on department needs) with hours from 10:30am - 7:00pm weekends/holidays as needed. Prior customer service experience is preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Transcribe patient diet orders using department software to ensure accurate delivery of nourishment.
  • Work closely with clinical nutrition staff to ensure patients' specialized dietary needs are met.
  • Enter nourishment specifications, allergies, food dislikes, and other specialized information into patient diet history maintenance files.
  • Check the accuracy of substitution lists generated by the Information system and make decisions regarding their accuracy.
  • Calculate fluid restrictions and other specialized meal patterns according to procedure and specialized meal plans.
  • Process patient tray tickets before each meal to ensure all tray tickets are correct according to the patient's diet prescription.
  • Receive information via EPIC, fax, ADT, phone, and diet list regarding new admissions, transfers, expirations, and diet changes.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
  • Minimum of 1 year-related work experience (Preferred)
