About the Role

We're seeking a skilled and compassionate School Nurse Specialist to join our team. In this position, you'll be responsible for identifying and treating health conditions among students, providing instruction on general wellbeing and disease prevention, and assessing student physical conditions in school settings.

You'll work closely with school administrators, teachers, and other staff members to develop individualized plans that cater to each student's unique needs. Your expertise will be invaluable in promoting healthy practices and nursing services that enable students to succeed in their academic endeavors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs): Participate in IEP meetings to create assessment plans, review health histories, and provide medical evaluations for students.
  • Promote Healthy Practices: Educate students on general wellbeing and disease prevention strategies, fostering a culture of wellness within our schools.
  • Collaborate with School Staff: Work with special services personnel, administrators, and teachers to coordinate services and support students with specific health needs.
  • Communicate Effectively: Share information with school administrators, teachers, and parents regarding students with health concerns, adhering to HIPAA and federal regulations.
  • Foster a Culture of Compliance: Ensure adherence to school district policies on health, emergency care, accidents, drug abuse, and bullying.
  • Monitor Health Reports: Notify school administrators, local health departments, parents, and staff about confirmed communicable diseases within the school community.
  • Develop Student IEP Goals: Create goals related to students' health conditions that impact their learning.
  • Maintain Accurate Records: Complete and file reports on screenings, immunizations, physicals, and other relevant health information.
  • Provide First Aid and Medical Services: Offer first aid care and medically prescribed services as needed.
  • Manage School Health Supplies: Maintain the security and integrity of school health supplies and medications.
  • Instruct Students in Health Education: Teach students about health education according to state curriculum guidelines.
  • Offer Staff Development Opportunities: Provide training and resources on health-related topics for school staff and volunteers.
  • Screen and Conduct Health Appraisals: Perform health assessments and screenings for students and staff.
  • Follow Up with Students: Conduct follow-up evaluations as required and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
  • Correspond with Parents: Communicate with parents regarding student health needs and concerns.
Minimum Requirements
  • Nursing License: Current nursing license for the state in which the nurse practices.
  • Certification or Credential: Certification or credential in school nursing is required.
  • Experience: One year prior school nursing experience is required; pediatric experience is preferred.
  • Professional Standards: Comply with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Competency Program: Participation and completion of Amegis' Competency program when applicable.
  • First Aid and CPR: Current CPR certification if applicable, TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Health Certificate: Current Health certificate per contract or state regulation.
  • Federal, State, and Local Requirements: Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • New Hire Training: Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
  • HIPAA and Confidentiality: Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to/from appropriate individuals via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required.
  • Computer Proficiency: Computer proficiency is required.
  • Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Credential: CA RN License.
Estimated Salary: $65,000 - $90,000 Per Year
