Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Direct Support Professional to join our team at AHRC NYC. As an Employment Skills Coordinator, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with disabilities to lead self-directed lives and enhance their employability.

About the Role

This full-time position is responsible for supporting participants in leading self-directed lives by instructing work behaviors and skills. The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals with disabilities and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support individuals with disabilities in developing and expanding meaningful community opportunities.
  • Collaborate with individuals and others to plan and implement supports that build upon individual strengths, choices, and capabilities.
  • Develop and expand job readiness skills through instruction and training.
  • Maintain accurate records of participant progress and development.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors and other team members to ensure compliance with OPWDD regulations and agency policies.
Requirements
  • One year of experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form in English.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with program participants, families, staff, and community agencies.
  • Knowledge of Home and Community Based Waiver and ability to stay up-to-date on relevant knowledge and interpret same.
  • Understanding of Person-Centered Planning principles.
