We are committed to delivering exceptional support to our engineering and scientific staff, enabling them to excel in their work. The purpose of this position is to provide critical assistance to our team in the conduct of x-ray and solar optics research and development.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and assemble complex hardware systems, prepare experimental procedures, and perform experiment setup, data acquisition, and evaluation.
  • Develop Ground Support Equipment (GSE) required for precision optical assemblies alignment and bonding.
  • Align and bond Prototype and Flight mirror assemblies, test and calibrate optics, and perform laboratory measurements of optical alignment using advanced laser equipment and electronic tools.
  • Support the assembly of precision optical systems, develop computer programs to organize and plot raw data, and perform elementary statistical data analysis, reduction, plotting, archiving, and logging.
  • Design vacuum GSE and test ports for environmental testing of scientific instruments.
  • Provide complete documentation on mechanical parts and assemblies of project instruments, write assembly procedures and environmental test procedures, and procure and track items for fabrication and hardware completion.

Requirements and Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess a professional engineering degree or a combination of education and experience that provides a thorough knowledge of physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, as well as good understanding of engineering sciences and techniques and their applications.

Candidates must also meet the following additional requirements:

  • Grade 9: At least one year of specialized experience at or above the grade 7 level in similar positions.
  • Grade 11: At least one year of specialized experience at or above the grade 9 level in similar positions.

Skillset and Knowledge

  • Professional knowledge & skill in applying fundamental mechanical engineering disciplines and applied mathematics.
  • Ability to perform experimental research and engineering experiments.
  • Elementary knowledge of optics.
  • Ability to apply modern computer techniques to solve engineering problems and mathematical analysis of systems using various operating systems and programming languages like PYTHON or MATLAB.
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment and operating techniques.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, particularly with scientists and engineers.
