Job Title: Benefits Program Coordinator

The City of Ontario is seeking a highly skilled Benefits Program Coordinator to join our Human Resources/Risk Management Agency. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for administering complex health insurance and pension programs, leave administration, voluntary benefits, and employee health and wellness programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer complex health insurance and pension programs, leave administration, voluntary benefits, and employee health and wellness programs.
  • Oversee the organizing and planning of annual open enrollment and benefit/health fair.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor efforts to maximize the use of benefit, health, and wellness programs and offerings.
  • Monitor program costs and make recommendations regarding plan design and appropriate cost containment.
  • Oversee and monitor the service performance of third-party administrators.
  • Evaluate, plan, and consult, and develop systems that guide the navigation for complex matters related to Public Employee Retirement Law (PERL).

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university in human resources, organizational development, public administration, or related field.
  • Five years of increasingly responsible professional experience in a variety of areas related to human resources administration, including at least two years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in human resources, organizational development, public administration, or related field.
  • Previous experience administering CalPERS Retirement and benefit programs, IPMA-HR, and/or SHRM Certification(s).
  • Substantial experience working with labor unions.
  • Public sector experience.

Working Conditions:

This is a part-time, temporary limited-term EXTRA HELP appointment available to retired annuitants of a public employee retirement system. The appointee shall only perform work of limited duration upon the completion of which the appointment shall be terminated.
