Counselor, School for the Deaf

We are seeking a skilled Counselor, School for the Deaf to join our team at the California School for the Deaf. The successful candidate will work with students individually and in groups, providing guidance and support to help them develop essential skills for independent living and academic success.
Key Responsibilities- Teach, tutor, supervise, discipline, advise, consult, and counsel students
- Assist students in developing skills for independent living and home environment
- Drive school vans and deliver items to meet students' needs
- Maintain accountability of students' whereabouts
- Collaborate with departmental personnel to plan a total education environment for students
- Plan, implement, and evaluate student development programs
- Prepare routine reports on students' behavior, charts, and report cards
- Maintain log books and contact parents on a regular basis
- Work at evenings
This position requires the following pre-employment clearance:
- Tuberculosis (TB) Risk Assessment and/or Test
- Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and Department of Justice (DOJ) Fingerprint Clearance
Applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications stated in the Classification Specification.
Desirable QualificationsApplicants must be able to communicate proficiently in American Sign Language, engage students in learning, serve as a role model, supervise activities, work without supervision, collaborate with other staff, use good communication skills, analyze situations, and set priorities and manage multiple tasks.
