City Engineer Position

Under the administrative direction of the City Manager, the City Engineer will oversee the activities and operations of the Public Works Engineering Department, including the capital improvement program, planning, designing, constructing, and maintaining public streets and parks, utilities, and emergency repairs. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field and ten years of progressively responsible engineering experience, with five years of public works management experience.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage the development and implementation of the Public Works Engineering Department's objectives, policies, and priorities.
- Establish service and staffing levels within City policy and allocate resources accordingly.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures.
- Plan, organize, and direct the scheduling of capital improvement projects, including design and inspection of contractors' work.
- Coordinate the development and administration of specifications and contracts for capital improvement projects.
- Represent the Department to other City departments, elected officials, and outside agencies.
- Prepare, review, and approve the formal performance evaluation of department staff.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Ten years of progressively responsible engineering experience.
- Five years of public works management experience.
- Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer (P.E.) in the State of California.
- Valid California Class C Driver's License.
