Job Summary:
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant at Medicine Journal, you will play a vital role in the collection of lab specimens, preparation of specimens for processing, and processing of waived and moderately complex lab tests. You will also be responsible for preparing and maintaining records of all results reported, performing quality controls in the lab, and completing lab proficiency testing. Additionally, you will support other practice operations as assigned by the Clinical Practice Manager or Administrator.
This position is involved in a team-based approach to care, where team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role as per the State of Tennessee/Georgia guidelines. You will be trained and assigned to coordinate care for patients and support patients/families/caregivers in self-management, self-efficacy, and behavior change. You will also be trained and assigned to manage the practices' patient population, participate in the practice's quality improvement process, and performance evaluation.
Responsibilities:
Collect lab specimens and prepare specimens for processing
Process waived and moderately complex lab tests
Prepare and maintain records of all results reported
Perform quality controls in the lab
Complete lab proficiency testing
Support other practice operations as assigned
Requirements:
High school or equivalent
Minimum of one year experience in medical office lab
One year experience in phlebotomy preferred
Working Conditions:
The Medical Laboratory Assistant works in a high-stress environment and must have the ability to assess patients and determine the validity and quality of venipuncture and capillary sites. You will also be responsible for answering phones and disseminating lab information to other medical personnel, entering physician orders into the computer system, and entering test results into the patient's electronic medical record.
