Position Overview

Gaston Social Services is committed to safeguarding, nurturing, and empowering individuals who are temporarily or permanently unable to care for themselves. This is achieved through the administration of various federal, state, and county programs aimed at enhancing the well-being of our citizens.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties are essential for this role:
  • Conducting initial training sessions for prospective foster and adoptive parents to inform them about the needs of children in foster care.
  • Facilitating the licensing process for family foster homes, which includes training, background checks, and completion of necessary documentation.
  • Ensuring safe and stable placements for children in the foster care or adoption system by matching their needs with the strengths of foster/adoptive parents.
  • Leading Shared Parenting Meetings during initial placements and transitions, attending court hearings, and participating in team meetings.
  • Meeting other program requirements, including being on call for foster care placements.
Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
  • A Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Social Work with a Child Welfare Collaborative (for CPS positions only).
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Social Work plus one year of relevant experience in case management, assessment, or counseling.
  • A four-year degree in a human services field with at least 25 semester hours of approved coursework and two years of related experience.
  • A four-year degree and three years of relevant experience.

A valid driver's license is required. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, particularly in working with children and adolescents, along with a solid understanding of child development. Knowledge of the effects of separation and loss on children removed from their families is highly beneficial.

Additional Information

Minimally qualified applicants will start at 25% of the salary range: $27.89/hr.
The selected candidate must successfully complete a drug screening test prior to employment.
