Job Summary

The Registered Nurse will provide professional nursing care to inmates and detainees within the Barnstable County Correctional Facility. This role requires a strong understanding of nursing protocols and medical provider orders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide care and custody, instruction, and health-related teaching to inmates
  • Perform initial and ongoing nursing assessments and provide treatment, teaching, and/or referral to medical providers
  • Document assessments and interventions in accordance with providers' orders and nursing standards
  • Communicate with the Director of Health Services, medical provider, and Shift Supervisors to ensure medical conditions are treated and considered in facility processes
  • Provide emergency medical care and triage within the scope of nursing practice to inmates and staff when needed
Requirements
  • An Associate's degree in nursing or a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Science is required
  • Licensure by the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Nursing is required
  • CPR certification is required
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in nursing is required
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a correctional facility and/or substance abuse or detox nursing is preferred but not required
Work Environment

This position requires working within the Barnstable County Correctional Facility and with individuals currently incarcerated at the Barnstable County Corrections Facility.
