About the Role

The State of Indiana is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team at the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT). As a Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment vehicles, snow-fighting equipment, and dump trucks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Rebuild, replace, and/or repair major parts on cars and light trucks, heavy-duty trucks, and heavy equipment.
  • Perform minor repairs or other related mechanical work.
  • Install snowplow blades and make repairs on damaged plow assemblies.
  • Maintain Equipment Management System (EMS) records on parts used and work performed on equipment and orders and/or pick up parts.
  • Service and repair of highway equipment in the field; use welding equipment to straighten and fabricate metal.
  • Recognize performance issues for both gas and diesel engines and properly diagnose them.
  • Inspect vehicles/equipment for damage.
  • Snow removal when necessary and other related duties as required.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or HSE diploma.
  • At least 1+ years of experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role.
  • Driver's license is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of automobile functions, systems, and repairs.
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to instruct others in the use of diagnostic equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of appropriate safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of employee training and development.
  • Ability to understand the system of mechanical procedures.
