Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Counselor to join our team at the State of North Carolina. As a School Counselor, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational and personal growth of our students, providing guidance and counseling services to help them achieve their academic and career goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement a data-driven counseling program to meet the needs of student inmates in various custody levels.
  • Provide individual and group counseling and classroom guidance for student offenders concerning personal, educational, or social challenges.
  • Serve as a consultant for education staff in areas including career education, transition support, classroom climate, learning preferences, etc.
  • Assist in interpreting results from standardized tests, formative and summative assessment results, and other student data accurately and effectively.
Requirements
  • A master's degree or above in school counseling, with or eligible to receive a license at the M, S, or D level.
  • A current (non-expired) State of North Carolina Professional Educator's License (Class Code M, S, or D) with certification in the area of School Counselor or in a closely related field.
  • Documented experience in aggregating, disaggregating, and interpreting standardized test results, formative and summative assessment results, and student data accurately and effectively.
  • Documented experience in counseling techniques for individual and group counseling.
  • Documented experience in providing resources and/or guidance supporting career planning, career information, and transition materials/services to assist students in transitioning between settings as well as transitioning into society beyond educational settings.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in multiple core content/subject areas (such as math and science).
  • Experience in maintaining accurate records including social and emotional skills, summative and formative performance, assessment results, and anecdotal notes.
  • Experience in working collaboratively with teachers and other staff to integrate guidance and counseling activities in the school curriculum.
  • Experience in communicating effectively with all pertinent stakeholders, in both oral and written formats.
