Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Water Safety Instructor to join our team at Family YMCA of Black Hawk. As a Water Safety Instructor, you will be responsible for providing swimming and water safety instruction to students of all ages and abilities in group and private settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide swimming and water safety instruction to students of all ages and abilities in group and private settings
  • Plan and implement program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values
  • Prepare written lesson plans in accordance with YMCA Swim Lessons curriculum
  • Complete student records and progress reports comprehensively and punctually
  • Help to create new approaches to serve the needs of program participants
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Strong swimming skills (see below)
  • Experience working with children
  • Able to provide effective communication with students, parents, and co-workers
  • Demonstrate ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
Swimming Skills Requirements

Candidates must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the following swimming strokes:

  • Front crawl
  • Back crawl
  • Breaststroke
  • Sidestroke
  • Butterfly
  • Elementary backstroke
Certifications and Training

Candidates are required to attend and pass a CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Administering Emergency Oxygen course and a YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor certification course scheduled upon hire.
