Nursing Development Specialist

As a Nursing Professional Development Practitioner, you will play a vital role in the development and implementation of educational programs for nursing staff. This role requires a strong foundation in adult learning principles, clinical expertise, and the ability to assess and prioritize the educational needs of a unit or department.
You will be responsible for coordinating nursing competence and professional development programs, conducting ongoing assessments of proficiencies, and providing feedback and formal action plans to management. Additionally, you will identify and evaluate high-quality instructional materials, adjust content and teaching strategies to meet learner needs, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of trends and advances in nursing and healthcare informatics.
This role requires strong communication and collaboration skills, as well as the ability to interpret and communicate across multiple disciplines. You will work closely with staff and leadership to promote a safe and healthy work environment and ensure optimization efforts are identified and implemented to support clinical decision making.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Incorporate principles of adult learning in the implementation of education programs.
2. Identify and evaluate high-quality, culturally diverse instructional materials in all types of media and formats.
3. Adjust content and teaching strategies to meet learner needs.
4. Identify individuals who do not meet established competency expectations and recommend a formal action plan to PCS leadership.
5. Maintain flexibility when managing multiple roles and responsibilities.
6. Interpret and communicate across multiple disciplines.
7. Promote a safe and healthy work environment.
8. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of trends and advances in the field of Nursing and Healthcare Informatics, as well as new developments in hardware and software technology.
Basic Qualifications:
1. Minimum two (2) years of nursing experience.
2. Minimum one (1) year of experience in nursing clinical education, which includes teaching, precepting, or supporting educational programs.
3. Bachelors degree in nursing or a related field.
4. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
5. Registered Nurse License (California) required at hire.
6. Basic Life Support certification.
Additional Requirements:
1. Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act, federal, state, and local requirements.
2. Demonstrated knowledge in KP HealthConnect, including functionality and expertise in workflows.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of medical center policy and procedure requirements, specialty training, and competency requirements.
4. National Certification required within one year of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Must have Labor and Delivery experience.
