About the Role

Nexus Health Systems Ltd is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapy Specialist to join our team. As an Occupational Therapy Specialist, you will develop and provide occupational therapy services to referred patients, serving as a patient advocate in the Therapy Department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Screen, evaluate, and treat patients as assigned in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Consult, evaluate, and develop treatment plans for assigned patients.
  • Evaluate patients within two to three working days of physical referral, depending on the level of care.
  • Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA) in direct patient care and patient-related activities.
  • Treat patients according to treatment plans approved by the attending physician, providing treatments and monitoring progress.
  • Communicate with the Director of Rehabilitation (DOR) Services, physicians, and other team members regarding patient progress, problems, and plans.
  • Participate in patient care conferences and weekly rehabilitation meetings.
  • Document treatment and outcomes daily according to accepted regulatory, corporate, and professional guidelines.
  • Complete all required patient care documentation in a timely manner.
  • Participate in policy and procedure meetings.
  • Participate in In-Service Training Programs with staff to achieve a high standard of care for all staff.
  • Record daily treatments and charges with respect to department policy.
  • Establish and instruct caregivers in patient-specific maintenance programs.
  • Establish and instruct parents/caregivers in patient-specific home exercise programs.
  • Participate in discharge planning.
  • Secure necessary durable medical equipment and adaptive equipment for patients to facilitate independence.
  • Serve as a clinical preceptor for affiliating Occupational Therapy or Occupational Therapy Assistant schools.
  • Communicate and coordinate clinical service department functions with other departments to achieve cohesion and effectiveness.
  • Communicate with the DOR regarding department programs, goals, objectives, problems, and successes.
  • Comply with state regulations and national standards as they apply to the practice of Occupational Therapy.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Occupational Therapy equipment utilized in different procedures and modalities.
  • Utilize resources appropriately and use/maintain equipment to prolong working life.
  • Access and check webmail each shift when working to stay informed of current events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
