Public Health Nurse Specialist

The Public Health Nurse Specialist is responsible for ensuring the public's health through health promotion, disease prevention, treatment, and management. This role involves working in various institutions, such as community health centers, hospitals, clinics, or long-term care facilities, and collaborating with state regulators, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to keep the community safe and healthy.
Key Responsibilities- Assess health care trends in communities
- Collaborate with emergency response planning and training when applicable
- Work with public health officials to help communities access and receive care
- Provide immunizations and health screenings to all populations in the community
- Provide patient and community education
- Monitor and deliver high-quality patient care
- Record and analyze medical data in various communities
- Evaluate the health of patients and develop treatment plans in collaboration with medical providers and multidisciplinary team members
- Participate in the evaluation and documentation of patients and care
- Assist in developing, evaluating, and implementing professional development education
- Refer patients to other providers as needed
- Manage budgets of public health facilities if applicable
- Review the work of assigned team members for thoroughness, soundness of recommendations, and compliance with the standards, policies, procedures, and regulations of the CDC as well as the County Department of Public Health
- Perform other duties as assigned/necessary
- Active Nursing Licensure in the state practicing
- Two (2) years of public health or community experience preferred
- Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
- Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
- Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
- Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
- Computer proficiency required
- Must be at least 18 years of age
