Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Physician (Emergency Medicine) to join our team at the US Department of Health and Human Services. As an Emergency Medicine Physician, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients within the Great Plains Area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Handles all emergencies presented to the Emergency Room.
  • Assignments cover the full range of general to complex emergency room cases such as injuries caused by automobile accidents, assaults with weapons, other accidents which may cause serious harm.
  • Incumbent stabilizes the patient and examines the patient to determine the seriousness of the illness or trauma.
  • Makes preliminary diagnosis, directs, prescribes or provides relatively new treatment regimens, or arranges for specialized care or patient referral as required.
  • Records patient-provider transactions in the problem-oriented medical record format and completes required data collection instruments, referrals, and medical records as required.
  • Fully participates in medical staff functions such as medical program review, quality assurance activities, and organizational functions including attending meetings and accepting committee assignments.
Requirements
  • Must pass pre-employment examination.
  • Selectee may be subject to a probationary period.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • This is a designated position covered by Public Law, requiring contact or control over Indian children.
  • Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is required for all selectees prior to entrance on duty.
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada.
  • Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, or a territory of the United States.
  • Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.
