Payroll Manager

The Payroll Manager will oversee the organization's payroll functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing of payrolls, compliance with government regulations, and strategic partnerships with internal/external customers. This role requires strong analytical skills, process improvement, and knowledge transfer.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead day-to-day operations of Workday payroll, time tracking, absence, and related functions for multi-state bi-weekly US payroll for multiple companies.
• Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates, including new hires, terminations, and employee changes.
• Serve as the subject matter expert for payroll and all payroll-related projects.
• Act as the escalation point to resolve payroll issues and as the employee contact for payroll-related questions.
• Process standard and complex payroll transactions, including retro calculations, manual adjustments, error resolution, and analysis of root cause.
• Maintain payroll records and data for the calculation of payroll for multiple pay groups.
• Partner with HR and Benefits personnel to ensure employee data, compensation, and benefit deductions are correct and promptly funded.
• Partner with Accounting and Corporate tax to reconcile Workday payroll records to appropriate company-made payments during month-end close.
• Provide funding amounts to Treasury prior to bank draw.
• Ensure the accuracy of the account posting rules for all on/off-cycle payments.
• Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
• Input and manage garnishment information for employees in Workday once received by the appropriate state agency.
• Identify and recommend updates to payroll processes, service levels with third-parties, systems, and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
• Manage the entire HR process for employee worker's compensation, in conjunction with insurance broker.
• Ensure alignment between employer pay and worker's compensation.
• Complete necessary forms related to initiating claims and providing required wage statements.
• Work with Insurance & Risk to provide requested payroll information for insurance renewals and audits.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience within Payroll.
• Workday Payroll experience is highly preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of the payroll function, including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
• Knowledge of payroll regulations, laws, and processes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically in Excel.
• Strong analytical skills with focus on process improvement and knowledge transfer.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage well through ambiguity and complexity.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong time management and organizational skills.
• Meticulous with the ability to multi-task with attention to accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
