Job Description:
The Melting Utility (Iron Processing Technician) is responsible for charging metal and fuel into the furnace using overhead bridge cranes and skid steers, monitoring furnace conditions, and hauling and pouring molten iron.
This role involves working with a team to ensure the production of high-quality castings, meeting customer specifications, and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
Responsibilities:
- Safety First: Ensure personal safety and the safety of fellow team members.
- Assist supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
- Conduct daily inspections of equipment and report any issues or concerns.
- Monitor furnace conditions, take readings, and record data.
- Operate yard crane to accurately weigh charge metals into the weigh hopper.
- Conduct quality testing of the iron to determine proper chemistry.
- Haul and pour molten iron, slags off molten iron, rods, and dumps the furnace.
- Reline, overhaul, patching, rebuilding of ladles, covers, and spouts on furnaces.
- Prep for the next production run and restock alloys when they become low.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Requirements include:
- High school diploma/GED preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
- Mathematical skills: ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.
