About the Job

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at the Wellington Lung and Sleep Clinic in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Job Description

The ideal candidate will have accountability for providing high-quality patient care in an ambulatory clinic setting. This will involve caring for patients with acute and chronic needs in the Sleep and Lung Clinic.

This position requires completion of a MA program or at least one year of MA experience in a fast-paced clinic. American Heart Association BLS certification is required upon hire.

Responsibilities
  • Perform general administrative and patient care tasks in accordance with Intermountain MGPSMA Scope of Practice and established policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multidisciplinary care team.
  • Greet and prepare patients for healthcare providers while maintaining a positive and caring attitude.
  • Attend to patients' needs, coordinate care, administer care, and document appropriately.
  • Provide for patient safety and protection of patient privacy rights by observing HIPAA regulations.
  • Obtain and record patient information, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, current medications, medical history, and chief complaint, etc.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
  • May be required to draw and collect blood samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Perform routine tests, including EKGs, hearing, and vision screens, as requested by healthcare providers.
  • Schedule patients for diagnostic testing and follow-up as necessary to ensure completion of testing.
  • Communicate test results to patients and establish a plan of care via phone or mail as directed by healthcare providers.
  • Document patient plans of care, tests, and examination results in the medical record as directed by healthcare providers.
  • Prepare, clean, and sterilize instruments and maintain equipment; stock patient exam rooms while maintaining cleanliness and organization, and dispose of contaminated items according to protocol.
  • Administer ordered medications and/or vaccines via oral, injection, topical, rectal, ophthalmic, and/or inhalant administration.
  • Educate patients on their conditions, treatments, and self-care.
  • Escalate non-routine issues, questions, and concerns to the practice manager and/or healthcare provider(s).
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must possess:

  • A current American Heart Association BLS certification.
  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Program or at least one year of MA experience in a fast-paced clinic.
  • Or a Current RN/LPN license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A national MA certification from one of the following national MA certifications or registrations: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) of AMT, National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant.
