Data Visualization Expert for Social Impact

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Analytics and Visualization Specialist to join our Strategic Research team at United Teachers Los Angeles. This is an exciting opportunity for a data-driven professional to make a meaningful impact in education.
About the PositionAs a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leveraging data analysis and visualization to support our campaigns and goals. Your expertise will help us elevate the stories of our 38,000 members, as well as parents, students, community allies, public officials, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
Your primary focus will be on collaborating with researchers, communications specialists, and field organizers to develop interactive and static data visualizations. These may include web-based dashboards, maps, predictive models, reporting tools, static tables, and charts for print.
You will also work closely with the research team to identify promising sources and uses of data, including developing data-driven projects. Additionally, you will maintain standards and best practices for storing, sharing, and securing datasets.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with researchers, communications specialists, and field organizers to develop interactive and static data visualizations
- Assemble, manipulate, analyze, and interpret data from various sources
- Participate in proactively identifying promising sources and uses of data, including developing data-driven projects
- Maintain standards and best practices for storing, sharing, and securing datasets
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- SQL proficiency for managing and querying relational data
- Data Visualization Software/Libraries (Intermediate/Advanced proficiency)
- Experience building interactive dashboards and static visualizations utilizing Tableau, PowerBI, Flourish, or other comparable software
- MS Office suite proficiency
- Able to work well with a team and communicate effectively with diverse groups of people
- Degree or substantial coursework in business/marketing, data visualization, data analysis, statistics, social sciences, or economics
- 3-5 years of experience with responsibility for data visualization work product
- Familiarity with public and private data sources
- Experience applying statistical techniques in a real-world/outcome-driven environment
- Web scraping experience preferred, not required
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS) experience preferred, not required

Salary and BenefitsThis position offers a competitive salary range of $107,222-$113,247 per year, depending on prior skills and experience. Regular step increases are included. Fringe benefits include employer-paid medical, dental, vision care for staff members and eligible dependents. A retirement plan and monthly automobile allowance for maintenance and operation of a car are also provided. Parking is available.
