Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team at People Inc. as a Transitional Staff Nurse RN. This role will involve providing high-quality healthcare services to individuals with developmental disabilities in our day programs and community-based homes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and coordinate the delivery of preventive and routine health care services for individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Supervise the completion of delegated nursing tasks to direct care staff and LPNs.
  • Provide training and education to staff on health-related topics.
  • Coordinate and provide health services and training for staff.
  • Oversee delegated health-related tasks to direct care staff and LPNs.
  • Provide medication training and certification to direct care staff.
  • Adhere to and ensure facility compliance with all physicians', NPs', and PAs' orders.
  • Based on independent judgment, suspend and/or revoke the responsibility of direct care staff or LPNs to perform or complete delegated tasks.
  • Based on independent judgment, suspend and/or revoke medication certifications and medication administration of direct care staff or LPNs.
  • Complete physical health and development assessments on individuals every 6 months in day programs.
  • In coordination with program managers, ensure safeguards are updated as needed.
  • Complete monthly breast exams on female clients if ordered by a physician.
  • Coordinate medical program needs with community services, medical providers, and other related agencies.
  • Ensure adequate scheduling and completion of health-related exams, appointments, laboratory/diagnostic testing as ordered or required.
  • Monitor medication administration in the facility.
  • Complete thorough annual medication reviews (Non-ICF) or ensure a pharmacist completes quarterly medication reviews (ICF).
  • For ICFs, complete quarterly nursing reviews for each person receiving services.
  • Update Plans of Nursing Services and ensure review with staff annually.
  • Participate as an active member of the Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable State/Federal regulations and Agency policy and procedure.
  • Maintain communication with LPNs (as applicable), Program Managers, Program Administration, Service Coordinators, and other staff as necessary.
Requirements
  • Current NYS license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
  • NYS Driver's License that meets Agency policy.
  • 1 year of related experience.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements of the position when performing the following:
  • Standing.
  • Walking.
  • Sitting.
  • Bending.
  • Stooping.
  • Squatting.
  • Kneeling.
  • Climbing.
  • Lifting requirement of 35 lbs.
  • Ability to move, reposition, and place individuals in pieces of equipment.
  • Physical agility and ability to react to emergency situations, including maintaining Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP-R) as per Agency guidelines.
