Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Utilities Specialist I to join our team at the University of Central Florida. As a key member of our Facilities and Safety department, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of our campus distribution systems, including water, wastewater, gas, storm water, chilled water, and power systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain campus utility systems to ensure efficient and reliable performance.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on utility infrastructure, including valves, pumps, and pipelines.
  • Perform regular inspections of utility equipment and infrastructure to identify potential issues or malfunctions.
  • Complete preventative and predictive maintenance work orders using departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and applicable State and Federal guidelines.
  • Utilize computer programs, including Microsoft Office Suite and AIM Desk Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), for various functions.
  • Interact with campus personnel to address utility-related concerns or service requests, providing information and support to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Perform field labor for various projects campuswide to aid facilities or other departments as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations, environmental standards, and industry best practices.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 0+ years of relevant experience.
  • One (1) year previous experience working in utility systems management or maintenance, preferably in a similar educational or large institutional setting.
  • Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of complex utility systems, including advanced knowledge of valves, pumps, pipelines, and related infrastructure.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) like AIM Desk or other industry-standard software.
  • Excellent communication skills in English to effectively interact with customers and team members, operate and interpret electronic equipment, understand standard safety procedures, and use telecommunication devices.
  • Capability to work in extreme environments and collaborate effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds and experiences.
  • Willingness and ability to perform hands-on field labor as required for various projects.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex utility issues.
