Colorado State University seeks a highly skilled and experienced Research Entomologist to join our team at the Colorado Natural Heritage Program (CNHP). The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and coordinating inventory and research projects related to the conservation of rare insect and invertebrate species in Colorado.

About the Role

The Research Entomologist will work closely with staff from CNHP, NatureServe, and the Natural Heritage Network to rank and develop species of concern lists for invertebrate groups in Colorado. This includes curating data for those invertebrates in CNHP's Biotics Database.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in entomology, with experience collecting various types of insects, interpreting aerial photography, navigating with a topographic map, and using GPS. They will also possess excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills, as well as effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

About the Position

This is a full-time position based in Fort Collins, CO, with the opportunity to work on a wide range of exciting projects related to insect conservation. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining lists of invertebrates of conservation concern for species in Colorado
  • Planning and conducting surveys and research on the conservation of rare species in Colorado
  • Updating CNHP's Biotics database with information collected on rare species throughout Colorado, especially those data related to species of interest and expertise

The Research Entomologist will also be responsible for recruiting, hiring, and supervising temporary staff, work-studies, and volunteers to complete project work as needed.

About the Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $51,750-$74,500 per year, commensurate with experience. Additionally, we provide a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, as well as retirement plans and paid time off.
