Nuclear Medicine Technologist Job Summary

As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases using radiopharmaceuticals. Under the supervision of a physician, you will perform a range of diagnostic imaging procedures, including in vivo and in vitro therapeutic procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate patient exams and studies, retrieving and processing patient requisitions, and reviewing requests for pertinent information.
  • Perform clinical imaging procedures, including SPECT and diagnostic studies, using scanners and scintillation cameras.
  • Measure radioactivity using Geiger counters, Well counters, and scintillation detectors, following radiation safety techniques.
  • Perform in vitro laboratory tests using test tubes, water baths, pH meters, and other equipment.
  • Use proper patient-to-instrument positioning techniques and obtain accurate, fully labeled images.
  • Receives, surveys, wipes, and monitors shipments of radiopharmaceuticals and documents all required studies.
  • Assists physicians in performing radionuclide therapy procedures and prepares radionuclide therapy doses.
Requirements:
  • Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certificate from the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of human anatomy, medical terminology, physiology, radiobiology, physics, chemistry, and mathematics related to Nuclear Medicine.
  • Ability to scan independently, using initiative and judgment.

This position requires rotating standby and working in all locations of the SBC service area. External hires must pass a background check/drug screen.
