Job Summary

Duke Health is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Paramedic I to join our team. As a Paramedic I, you will play a vital role in providing direct patient care and working collaboratively with our interdisciplinary healthcare team to deliver exceptional patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care in accordance with the Paramedic scope of practice, under the medical oversight of the Medical Director.
  • Assist clinical staff in the evaluation, treatment, and care of patients, obtaining pertinent history and performing physical examinations as needed.
  • Monitor patients and maintain accurate records using patient monitoring systems and electronic health records.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, healthcare teams, physicians, administrators, and leadership to promote seamless care coordination.
  • Operate complex medical and mechanical equipment, ensuring proper function and restocking medical supplies as needed.
  • Contribute to a safe and therapeutic environment by properly disposing of and handling sharps, soiled materials, and linens, and adhering to infection control procedures and safety protocols.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities, identifying opportunities for clinical or operational enhancements and supporting evidence-based practice, research, and quality initiatives.
  • Maintain certifications and clinical skills, and perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma; Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Current certification as a North Carolina Paramedic or ability to obtain certification in the State of North Carolina.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS required upon hire; current trauma course preferred (PHTLS, BTLS, or ITLS).
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of experience as a Paramedic or other relevant clinical experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, lift, reach, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch/squat, balance, and pull; ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking.
  • Must be able to lift and support the weight of up to 75 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
  • Intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, and touch; finger dexterity; bimanual dexterity.
