Nurse Educator Clinical Diabetes Specialist

Job Summary:
The Clinical Diabetes Educator RN will be responsible for assessing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating clinical opportunities and strategies for improving the delivery of diabetic patient care and staff education. This role will act as a liaison with multidisciplinary departments and services concerning diabetes education, developing and providing education for patients and their families on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and plan clinical opportunities for improving diabetic patient care and staff education
- Coordinate and implement strategies for improving delivery of diabetic patient care and staff education
- Evaluate the effectiveness of clinical opportunities and strategies
- Act as a liaison with multidisciplinary departments and services concerning diabetes education
- Develop and provide education for patients and their families on an inpatient and outpatient basis
Requirements:
Education/Skills:
- Graduate of an accredited RN program required
- BSN preferred
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of three years clinical RN experience required
- Minimum of three years experience managing the care of patients with both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes
- Familiarity with insulin pumps preferred
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
- Current Texas RN license required
- Certified Diabetic Educator (CDE) preferred. If not CDE at time of hire, successful completion of CDE exam within 2 years of hire/transfer date is required to remain in position
