Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Jr Electrical Engineer to join our team at Hawaiian Electric Company. As a key member of our P TD TRANSMISSION & DISTRIBUTION ENGINEERING Department, you will play a critical role in supporting the capital construction programs of our company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Under the direct supervision of higher-level professional engineers, perform design, project engineering, project management, and general engineering duties.
  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications.
  • Prepare plans, layouts, design calculations, and related engineering design in accordance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Conduct project design and cost alternative studies, field inspections, and prepare associated reports.
  • Prepare and manage cost estimates, budgets, schedules, material and construction specifications, and construction contracts for projects assigned.
  • Perform project engineering and project management functions for assigned projects.
  • Coordinate work by consulting engineers, evaluate proposals and bids for engineering services and equipment, and make recommendations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering in a relevant discipline from an accredited engineering school.
  • Thorough knowledge of the theories and principles of engineering acquired through advanced college-level courses or equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering design, project engineering, project management, and construction methods associated with electric utility facilities.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and related software applications, such as spreadsheets, word processing, and the ability to learn additional software tools to perform work.
  • Working knowledge of LEAN continuous improvement principles and best practices to achieve operational excellence.
  • Working knowledge of SafeStart principles and best practices to achieve a safe workplace environment.
  • Good leadership skills, including effective written, oral, and listening communications skills and interpersonal skills, to work effectively with all levels of the company, outside contractors and consultants, governmental agencies, community groups, and customers.
  • Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to handle confrontational, difficult, and/or sensitive issues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the design of additions, modifications, extensions, upgrades, and rearrangements of company generation, transmission, substation, and communication and control systems and facilities.
  • Experience in a specific and relevant area of expertise.
