Urban Forestry Project Manager

The Urban Forestry Project Manager will lead a team of foresters in supporting community forestry projects across Southern California. This role involves managing project operations, training and educating staff to enhance their technical expertise, and promoting urban forest stewardship.
This position requires strong leadership skills, experience with urban forestry principles, and proficiency in project management software. The successful candidate will inspire and guide team members, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of project metrics.
Responsibilities- Project Management: Develop and implement project work plans, including planting and maintenance schedules, site assessments, and tree procurement and inspection.
- Crew Supervision: Manage crews conducting urban forestry activities, ensuring safe and effective execution of tasks.
- Training and Development: Implement diverse training programs for crew members in arboriculture, landscaping, natural resource management, and related disciplines.
- Communication: Maintain effective communication with the Associate Director of Community Forestry, promptly addressing safety issues, personnel concerns, and other requirements for support.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and city regulations while conducting TreePeople business operations.
- Leadership Experience: Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience, preferably in leading fieldwork teams or crews.
- Urban Forestry Knowledge: Strong foundation of urban forestry principles and best practices, including experience planting and maintaining public trees.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in computer applications, including email, essential document and spreadsheet operations, GIS platforms, and project management software.
- Certification: Possession of an ISA Certified Arborist designation is highly preferred.
- Work demands physical energy, twisting, safe heavy lifting ability, and hand-to-eye coordination.
- Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
- Must be able to load and unload 15-gallon trees from a stakebed truck.
The estimated annual salary range for this position is $70,000 - $75,000, commensurate with experience.
